Mayo Clinic Day Two

Today was a long day of waiting...nervous waiting. I suppose it should get easier for me to hand my baby away to a complete stranger to take away and sedate, but it really hasn't. This MRI was the longest wait. Maybe because they did so much more than they ever have before. She did well though. They took her blood and stole her urine while she was sleeping. We were discharged just in time to make a drive through-run, park in a very full ramp, and take ridiculously fast elevators up and down to our next appointment.

So far, Allison has always been in the Peds department, but this afternoon, I had to check our papers twice. We were in the eye center, and the average age was at least 90. All the old ladies wanted to pinch Allison's cheeks, but she was still groggy from the sedation. Needless to say, she did not cooperate when the doctor dilated her eyes and tried to figure out her prescription. Turns out her nystagmus (rapid eye movement from side to side) will never go away, but it can be improved with glasses. So we have a prescription for glasses that we will take back to Michigan and fill. Little Alli J is getting glasses! The doctor said she probably can't see more than three yards in front of her. I guess she just laughs at her brother and sisters simply by hearing them.

The coolest thing happened today though. As we were heading back to our hotel room via the underground tunnels, a frozen yogurt sign caught our eye. No one was there, but a sign on the wall said, "Take a cup, Fill it up, Weigh and pay." There was a wall full of ice cream machines - tons of flavors - and the biggest topping station we have ever seen. I loaded up with chocolate and peanut butter ice cream, then topped it with raspberries, brownie bites, peanut butter cup chunks, and chocolate chips - HEAVEN! Greg and I are thinking of going into business for ourselves. There was one employee there, taking our money. What a wonderful place!

Off to find dinner within walking distance. Jimmy John's tonight, I think.

Tomorrow we have three appointments back to back to back: Rehab doctor, physical therapy, and dermatology (for a skin biopsy). We should be done by noon. Might hit an outlet mall to kill the afternoon...
