Mid-December Update

I don’t have much of an update.  The results of the two pending tests on Allison have not come back yet, and honestly, I’m tired of calling and harassing people for those results.  She does continue to improve physically. Like the tortoise, “slow and steady” Allison continues to grow stronger, gain more balance, and become more aware of what her body can do.  The other day, propped in the corner of the couch, she started to lean to the right (fairly typical for her).  I watched her, in slow motion, look at her arm, put her hand down to brace herself, bare some weight on it, and push herself back up to center.  What a moment!  Orally she continues to improve as well.  We’ve only been in speech therapy and aquatic therapy for about a month, but between that and the instructions from Early On, I think she has made tremendous improvement.  It is obvious that she has the desire to taste things, she just doesn’t have the skill to take food off of a spoon, push it to the back of her mouth, and swallow.  But if what we are doing now keeps us out of the intensive feeding clinic at Mary Free Bed, where we were told we might end up, in-patient, for a month, then I will be very happy.

My awesome husband decided he wanted to add some drama to our already dramatic life by falling off of a ladder.  He was carrying supplies up, lost his grip, and fell (he won’t tell me how far down).  Fortunately, a tractor tire broke his fall; without that, he would have fallen head first onto concrete.  He downplays it so I don’t worry, but I’ve seen his bruised body.  That was a bad fall, but it could have been worse.  Someone had His eyes on us that day.

I didn’t blog about it, but Greg and I had a great time at the Lion’s game on the 11th.  Thanks to my parents for watching all four kids for ten hours!  It was the first win we’ve been a part of at Ford Field.  And down to the last play too!

I want to wish all my friends and family a Merry Christmas.
