So, we are home after a short stay in the hospital. After many tests, a chest x-ray, and lots of iv fluids, Allison has perked up. She is wetting diapers again, and her skin and lips are not cracked and bleeding like they were.
After being admitted for dehydration and the threat of pneumonia, it was determined that Allison has RSV, a serious infection to the lungs. Because of her special needs and other health concerns, RSV is potentially a very serious illness, where in other babies and toddlers it could present as a common cold. When she was admitted, her vitals were the worst they've ever been. Usually her pulse/ox is 99-100%, but Wednesday afternoon it was 93%. And her heart rate was 192! She couldn't even open her eyes or hold up her head. She looked absolutely pathetic. Before we made a stop at her pediatrician's office before heading to the hospital, Greg gave her a bath and put on a clean diaper. She wore that diaper from 1:00pm Wednesday until 7am Thursday morning, when it was finally wet.
Allison still has a long recovery ahead of her. She is still vomiting, although it is not every ten minutes like it was earlier this week. She needs to get rid of her cough too before she can return to daycare.
This morning I was greeted with a smile from Allison and an "ut-oh" because she had dropped a toy. I think things are looking up. Now to de-germ my house and catch up on the everyday household chores that were ignored due to the craziness of the week.
