We have many things to be thankful for right now. We are thankful that our big three are healthy, active, and successful learners. We are thankful that they adore their “special” little sister and have never given us any indication of resentment towards her. (She does soak up a lot of Greg’s and my attention.) We are thankful for the anonymous donors that keep sending us money for our extra expenses – thank you if you’ve ever sent us money. We are thankful for our insurance and for Children’s Special Health Care Services. We are able to have our mileage reimbursed, as well as doctor visit co-pays and prescription co-pays. I never thought that those things could add up the way they do, but when it is all lumped into one reimbursement check, it’s totally worth all the paperwork. We are thankful to have avoided lengthy hospitalizations this fall. Either Alli is growing out of her “cycles” or her trial-and-error shuffle of medications has landed on the right combination. We are thankful for our good jobs – and our understanding bosses – who are accommodating to our needs. We are thankful to our family and friends who go out of their way to care for our big three when Greg or I have Alli obligations. I am thankful for a husband who will be taking time out of his work day to take Alli to speech therapy once a week. We are thankful for good teachers and therapists and doctors and equipment that all play a part in Alli’s development. I am thankful for consecutive hours of sleep (oh, how I miss you) and babies who are finished teething. (For babies with an oral aversion, teething is the worst thing ever.) Lastly, I’m thankful that we have not lost our dear little Alli J – that she is a fighter and is patiently holding on until the doctors figure her out. I’m thankful that we can be together on this day and hopefully have many many more Thanksgivings together. Happy Thanksgiving all…
